I began drumming with bands as a teen in Los Angeles, and I continue to evolve as a musician today. I feel the groove in an array of genres, including Rock, Jazz, Funk, Latin, Blues, Fusion, R&B, Pop, Country, Theatre, and Ethnic styles. Having come from an artistic and eclectic extended family, music has always been in my soul and spirit, and I enjoy playing with musicians from all backgrounds.
Drummers from diverse eras and genres inspire me in attitude, philosophy, and playing. Among these are the following, alphabetically: Louis Bellson, Cindy Blackman, John Bohnam, Terri Lyne Carrington, Dennis Chambers, Vera Figueiredo, Steve Gadd, Jo Jones, Senri Kawaguchi, Joe Morello, Nigel Olsson, Ian Paice, Neil Peart, Max Roach, and Steve Smith. Visit Drummerworld for more. My greatest inspiration has been Mark Turpin, my drum teacher, mentor, and role model.
While I have played extensively as noted in my Background above, my primary career is a communication instructor online with Grand Canyon University, Maricopa Community Colleges, and Ashford University. I also work with my partner in professional skills training and certification. I earned my Master of Arts degree in Professional Development at Amberton University.
